Following is an email from my neighbor across the street. As you read it you will be able to feel the "heart" in her message. Please keep them in your prayers as they help baby Matthew find his way in the world.

Hi everybody!
I have some good news ! After 2 1/2 months at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, where Matthew was put on ECMO (a heart-lung bypass machine) for a week (which saved his life), intubated for 3 weeks, had his first heart surgery, got meningitis, sepsis (infection of the blood), caught a nasty GI virus where his temperature went to 107F (TWICE) and then down to 95F (multiple times), and then got RSV and had to be put in a tent, (all this and more)...he is FINALLY home! We are so happy! We brought him home last night. He will be on oxygen and tube-fed through his nose until his open-heart surgery. He has to be hooked up to a sleep apnea machine at night, as well as a feeding pump. We also have to give him breathing treatments at least twice a day in addition to all his meds! Our room looks like a mini-hospital!
I can't thank you enough for all your help, prayers, kind words, encouragement, gifts, and friendship. I wouldn't be able to get through this difficult time without you. I'm certain of that.
Even though you already have done so much for us, so many of you are still asking how you can help. I finally thought of something, something that means the world to me: Help me be Matthew's advocate. Please see him for what he is - a baby. A beautiful baby. A beautiful baby boy who happens to have Down Syndrome. He is not "a Downs", or "a Down Syndrome baby". He is a baby with Down Syndrome. A baby first. He is more like other babies than he is different. It might just seem like semantics, but there really is a difference. Please help me teach others the difference, and help others understand that Matthew will be his own person, with likes and dislikes, skills and weaknesses. He will most likely graduate from high school, maybe even go to college, get a job, maybe fall in love and get married. We can't wait to see what kind of person he becomes. But for now, we're just enjoying our baby boy and we love him to pieces! We think he is delicious!
Thanks again for everything.
Love,
Anneliese

KKickert,
I just wanted to share with you something you can share with your neighbor.
I have a brother that is a year and half older than me and he is mentally retarded. He was born with yellow jaundice and it went to his brain(I think that didn't matter.) He has a hole in his heart and some medical issues but what I want to share is there is no greater love than a special child if we only knew love like they do the world would be HEAVEN ON EARTH!!!!
I helped with special olympics every year until I had my kids.
My brother Jamie went to school until he was 21 years old and would have graduated if my grandmother hadn't passed away and he got shingles and didn't go back to school because of his age.
He is on average of a 7 year old but he can spell anything that has to do with cars and he can work a computer very well. He has always had girlfriends and he says everyone is his girlfriend.
He could work at a job but my mom doesn't want him to and I wished she would because he would benefit so much from it. He will be 40 years old on March 6.
After working with so many special children they are God's blessing!!!

Dear Lord,
I lift baby Matthew up to you and pray for this family as they are preparing for open-heart surgery.Lord I pray for strength for Matthew and his parents. Lord I know the special love that this little boy will bring to this family and to brighten up the world. Lord guide the surgeons hands and make this child well.
I pray all of this in Your name,Amen!!!

My cousin Crystal passed away last night after a long battle with brain cancer, she was only 46. Please pray for her children, they are only 16 and 12 and were very close to her. My Aunt and Uncle are very strong christians but have endured so much over the past few years .....they lost a son a few years back in an electrical fire.
Dear Father I ask that you comfort Aunt Lib and Uncle Ed today as they seek to understand and deal with the death of their daughter. Give them traveling mercies as they travel back to SC to prepare for her burial, please also protect Little V and myself as we travel to be with family. Wrap your loving arms around DJ and Laura Elizabeth today and in the coming months as they are faced with a life without Mom. I also ask that you be with Steve Glover today and over the coming weeks as he deals with rehab and recovery from his surgery yesterday.
You are my strength Lord and I am so grateful for my life, my children, my husband, the health of my family. Thank you also for our church family and the opportunities you have given us to serve, worship and grow with such an awesome body of believers.

If anyone gets on the blog in the next couple hours, could you pray for my choir concert tonight? We are singing some awesome music--my favorite is Arthur Honegger's King David, which tells the story of David from 1 and 2 Samuel. It is really powerful and I'm praying that God would be glorified through it, that somehow it would even bring someone closer to a relationship with Him. Pray also that we might sing with one voice, although we all come from different backgrounds and levels of experience. Thanks!

Got it.

Hey everyone! Most of you don't know me, my husband and our boys started attending BCN about 6 months ago, and usually slip right out after service. Anyway, I'm writing this because I got some news from my sister yesterday. Apparently she has been ordered to have a CAT scan on Friday, they believe her spleen is enlarged. About 2 weeks ago they had to put a heart defibulator in, because she was having heart pallups (?), she is only 27, married with 3 children. The most disturbing thing, is that the doctors told my mother the same thing about a year and a half ago, and it turned out that she actually had cancer. My sister has lost about 20 lbs in the last 2 weeks, which makes her look very sickly now. My family as a whole, have had 18 people in the last 2 years diagnosed with cancer. So I guess, I'm just asking that you pray for God's will, but if it is His will...let her be healed, and the doctors find nothing.

God...as I join in prayer today for Rebecca's family I pray that you would comfort all of them right now. May they feel your love surrounding them right now as they are scared of what the test might bring. I pray in Jesus' name today that the test would come back negative for Rebecca's sister. God I also want to join in prayer regarding Blake and his team who are anxiously awaiting Sudan. I pray that they might get clearance to go and be a witness for you. I pray that you would give them encouragement and strength as they prepare to do your Will. Thank you for each and every one of their hearts and earnestly seek a deeper walk with you.

Dear Lord, As I come to you today I ask that you forgive me for all of my sins. Help me to better understand how to draw closer to you each day - in every activity that I do. Please be with Rebecca's sister. Touch her and hold her close so that she and her family feel your love and presence as they go through the next few days. Please be with Angie and her family, give them peace and understanding. I ask all of these things in your name.

Dear Lord, as I come to you today I just want to thank you for who you are! No one can fathom the depth of your Love and passion for us. I have a child coming into this world and I have so much love for this child already God. When I first saw those tiny hands on the ultrasound, I felt love for this child for the first time. As I think of Jesus there are two things that come to mind. 1. You knew our sin was bad enough for you to give up your only son to sacrifice himself for us. 2. You love us so much that you gave your only son to sacrifice himself for our sins. Thank you God for your Love!

Hey everyone, just wanted to update you on my sister. She went back to the doctor today and he referred her to a G.I. specialist. She could possibly have a colonoscopy because of this, but at this point everything is still iffy. She doesn't go in to the specialist until March 2.
Meanwhile, I got a call this morning from my dad. My mom, who is about 1 1/2 years in remission from Lymphoma cancer, was asked to come into her cancer doctors office today. They are doing a CT scan Wednesday morning, and a PET scan Thursday morning to do "staging", which will tell her how far advanced the cancer is now and where all it is located. This is a shock to us all, and our whole family could use the prayers.
We know the power of prayer and we know God can do awesome things if we trust Him!

Father-
If you say go, we will go
If you say wait, we will wait
If you say step out on the water and they say it can't be done, we'll fix our eyes on you and we will come.

Your ways are higher than our ways
and the plans that you have laid are good and true
If you call us to the fire, you will not withdraw your hand
we'll gaze into the flames and look to you.
Lord help us be a church that is looking to you in all things. Guide us by your spirit and make us worthy of the calling we have received.
Amen

A Prayer of Thanks from my sister.
One Year Ago Today
On May 8th it will be one year since Trent's accident. He left that morning, not a care in the world, except to have fun, and ended up fighting for his life, and I will thank God every day that he got a second chance. When I got to the scene of the accident and they told me it didn't look good, I immediately shut down every thought in my head except one, 'He's going to be O.K.', I kept saying that over and over to myself, everybody said how strong I was and how well I handled it, but I didn't have time for hysterics, or time for worrying about what everybody else was thinking, I could tell by the looks on their faces that they thought he was gone, all my energy and focus was on willing him to be O.K. I felt like if for one second I stopped believing, if for one second I doubted he would make it, then he would be lost, I was afraid that if I saw him right then, that I would fall apart and I couldn't let myself do that, I turned him over to God and I had to believe without doubt that he would be O.K. I thank God that Charles Gilliand was only a mile away when the call came in and that he had the presence of mind to get Trent's tongue out of his throat, I thank God for the helicopter pilot that decided at the last minute to take him to B'ham.,even though I was headed to Tupelo as fast as we could go, I thank God for the trauma team at Children's Hospital for knowing what to do to keep him alive, I thank God for Dr. Blount for going into surgury believing he could "help this boy", and I thank God for the nurses and staff in PICU for their caring and kindness as well as there skill at taking such good care of Trent. I thank God for Frank the respitory tech who worked so hard to keep Trent breathing after they took him off the respirator, even though some of the staff were ready to put in the trach. I thank God for all the people who have worked with Trent since those first scary weeks and rejoiced with us at each new thing he could do for himself, the people and staff at Winfield, Wendy, Amanda, Lisa, Mrs. Roberts. I thank God for all the thoughts and prayers sent our way by friends and family, and for all their kindness. I thank God for my Moma and Daddy who have always been there for me and raised me to be strong, I thank God for my sister, who got to B'ham. from Nashville before I could get there (after my detour to Tupelo), and stayed all those long days waiting for him to wake up, then came home and started an extreme makeover on my house with help from friends and family in our community. I thank God for my brothers and Tristan for being there when they could and for knowing when they weren't there they were with us in spirit. I thank God for Dianne, who, even though it brought back all the memories of losing a son in a car wreck, went with Moma and Daddy to B'ham. while Loretta, who is as close to a sister as the one I have, stayed in Hamilton to wait for me and take me to the hospital. I thank God for Charlotte and Tammy who drove up with clothes for us knowing we wouldn't be coming home for a while. I thank God for all the friends and family who were there that long day and night waiting for news from the doctor. I thank God for Trent and his wonderful smile and attitude, there has not been a lot of sadness in our house this year, everyday is filled with joy and gladness. It's one year later and he's happy and healthy, and even if some things don't work as well as they used to, he is more than O.K., we are blessed!! Sharon and Trent

Father God I praise You and thank You for who You are and all that You do and who we are with You in us. I lift up this wonderful young man to you, Lord and I praise you for bringing him into our family. Lord I know that You have placed a call on His life and he desires to answer that call. Lord I pray that you will pave his way as he struggles through the "eye of the needle" and I pray for each of us that we will do and say all that You would have us to on his behalf to support and encourage him on this journey. Thank You Lord for the sacrifice You made that we can come to You and asks these things and know that You are hearing and responding even before we ask. All these things we bring before You in Your precious Name-Amen

Please pray for my brother's children. They were taken into state custody about a week ago becasue their mother is in trouble with the law and placed in foster homes. Daisha is still there but Dylan ran and now has a warrant out on him. My mother is beside herself and feeling very guilty for not taking them but she is not able to take care of them the way they need to be taken care of-they don't listen to her. Pray over this situation and that God will move in awesome ways that all can see and feel His incredible presence. Thanks guys, I love you all!

My Mother in Law (Sue Johnson) has done very well with her first Chemo treatments. We pray that the Lord will use this technology for a total healing in her body.

Father I ask that you would also be with the Littons this week as they go to Florida for a funeral. Shannon's grandfather will be buried in Florida and we ask that You watch over them, keep them safe, and bring them home.

This prayer request is for Mitchell. We found out yesterday that he has amblyopia-"lazy eye" and is almost totally blind in his right eye. He will have to wear glasses all the time as well as 2 hour "patch" therapy daily. I can't believe that I didn't notice this sooner and have been kicking myself however it is treatable and we have every expectation for improvement. Help me pray that he is willing to do what must be done to treat this condition without it being a battle and that he understands how much better he will be able to do his school work and play his beloved baseball!! Thanks guys, Angi

Father I thank You for a great Sunday. Please continue to bring in new people to Your house who are hungry for holiness and thirst for righteousness. Please protect Your people today as they work at home or in the marketplace. We ask that You would encourage us in our jobs today and help us to be witnesses. I pray that Your people will be able to tell others about their love for Jesus today. Thank You for the ministries of BCN and the strong leaders. Please strengthen Your leaders today.

Thank you Lord for all that you are doing right now, today for Your children. I thank you for the sight before me Sunday morning as I looked around our sanctuary that You had filled. I thank you for a Pastor that allows You to guide him and use him to speak to us and care for us. Lord I thank you for Mitchell's diagnosis and all that it has brought to us-trials included-as you lead this family through the eye of the needle toward the top of the mountain. Dear God I am so encouraged by Your Spirit and I feel Your presence, please bless each and every person that I have the opportunity to touch to feel You as I do. Because of the gift of your Son I can pray these things and know that you hear me, AMEN

EPIPHANY! It's not that God does things for us, it's because we have renewed strength because He is with us and we are not alone. Some things He won't do for us becasue He NEEDS for us to see how much stronger we are than we give ourselves credit for-with a friend like Jesus encouraging us how can we fail? A friend that would make the ultimate sacrifice for us so that He could go before the Father and take what no one else can. Be strong my friends, there is someone by your side that can not only move mountains-He's the one that put them in their place to begin with-So there Satan-put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!

I lift up David Ghee and Arthur who spoke to our church last night. Thank You for this servant who is working in the tough places of the world. Thank You for his heart and his testimony of Your grace.
I praise You Father for this mighty congregation of prayer warriors. Guide us as a church and help us see where You are leading us.

The prayers of a small but mighty church...Mitchell is beginning a transformation. His behavior at school has changed COMPLETELY! His grades which weren't too bad anyway have improved dramatically. And I am beginning to see an improvement in his behavior in other places. The prayers of a small but mighty church...where would we be were it not for all of you? I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!

I just wanted you all to pray for my grandma and my family. My mom called me yesterday morning to tell me that the doctor's have given my grandma 30 days to live. Her liver is gone, and her kidney's are almost completely gone as well. She's been doing dialysis for the last couple of months with no improvement, but they told my grandpa that once she stops the dialysis she'll have 5-7 days to live. My grandma is aware of everything that's going on, but requested that she have one last treatment (which was this morning). She's very ready to go see Jesus, but it's hard on the rest of us to let her go. Just pray for my grandma, grandpa, and my family in general. And thank you for always being here to pray when we need it!

So I have some semi-good news. My grandma went ahead and had another dialysis today, and has told the doctor that she would like to continue on dialysis until it's no longer helping. The doctor acknowledge her request and has extended her life expectancy to 3-6 mos. She feels like there is still something that she needs to stay around for, but she's not sure what. Still keep my family in your prayers, and thank you Pastor Alan for always being there even when you're not here.
